My Laser Eye Surgery!

This is my story of my laser eye surgery with Optical Express on 28th January 2010 at the Southampton, West Quay branch. I had Intralase Lasik Wavefront Laser Eye Surgery. To get your discount ask me for a voucher in the comments box and I’ll sort out sending one out to you. Let me know how you got on with your surgery in the comments box. Good luck everyone!

@jodeysully i have loads of them. i have a feeling if you’ve booked already though you cant use them. but I’m more than happy to send you one just incase.
if you message me with your address this weekend i’ll see what i can do. Although postie might let us down as there’s not much time to get it to you.
i cant wait to have mine done, im havin it done 29 th june, do still have the vouchers???
@boboHuman of course you can have a voucher but the scheme has changed slightly now in order to benefit the person who has already had the surgery more. Before would gett £300 and I would get £50, but now the £300 is spilt down the middle (or all one way) - Of course I’m gonna go for the split idea, else I get nowt, but its still worth £150. If you message me your postal address I’ll get one sent to you straight away.
Hi - Thanks for making this video. It’s really reassuring. I’m just about to book to have my eyes done at the beginning of July. Would you be able to let me have a discount voucher? (I’m not sure how it works). Apparently it’s worth £300 off of my surgery - not to be sneezed at!!
@Triona258
I had my eyes done in April and like you had trouble with contact lens so was worried about if I would have problems after surgery, but I need not have worried I have had no problems not even dry eye and like Smiffy my eyes are perfectly normal, the surgery is nothing to worry about either it was that easy if i had to go back and have it done again it wouldnt bother me at all, Dont worry about the blinking because the anastetic drops stop u blinking so its ok :) I <3 my new eyes :)
Hi is it possible i could have one sent to me ?
If you message me, then i will message you my details.. Thank you :)
@Triona258 when you say suction I can only guess you’re talking about when they make the flap. Well i had my flap created by the laser and there was no suction, just pressure.
Don’t worry you can tryy to blink all you like - it just wont happen!
@Triona258 if the consultant has said you will be fine don’t worry. I didnt get on with contacts either, once i finally got them in my eyes were very dry. I worried that they were going to be dry too once I had them lasered but this is not the case. My eyes are perfectly normal now. They dont use suction to hold your eyes open, they are held open with a little doodah that goes under your lids and ping your eyes are open.
My surgery is in july and i’m really worried! My eyes are v sensitive and whenever i tried contacts i couldn’t get them in because they kept blinking.
I’m just paranoid my eyes won’t stay open. Is the suction they use to hold open your eyes very effective or would a v strong blink reflex render them useless??
@skempFUSS Thanks!
I just love the results and wish I had done it years ago. 4 months on and no problems whatsoever. Whoop Whoop!!!
@305319 you will probably have to wait till your prescription settles and is stable for a good while. But my friend had it done before me and his prescription was -10!! So there’s still hope for you.
my eye sight is -7 and i’m only 15, could may eyesight be too bad for lasik by the time i’m old enough?
This is a really good video. Kudos
This is better than any advert that Optical Express can make, and I’m saying that as an Optical Express employee.
But this is a good honest review of Wavefront Intralase (not Ultralase Wavelength like you said :P)
I’ve had it done aswell so I know exactly what you mean with everything and I reckon this video will be helpful for alot of people. Nice one!
@stedanalton I have tried all sorts of ways and have hit a brick wall with getting your discount. They are saying that as you never mentioned it at your consulation and have paid the total amount in full there is nothing they can do. I now have the official ammbassador refferal cards so perhaps a way round it to get the discount (which is £150 btw) would be to rebook - although check that with your branch before you do that!!! If you want a voucher then please let me know.
@lellyloo - I look at pictures of myself now and think who is that person! Its so funny how quickly you get used to not wearing glasses. I wish I had the money to do it years ago but hey at least its done now ….. I can walk in the rain with my chin up rather than just staring at the floor - its the little things!!
@stedanalton sorry I havent got back to you I’ve been working away during the week with no Internet access - Argh!!!! But I have printed up your details and I’ll give customer Services a call ASAP for you.
Good luck and just remember you’ll be fine!!
Great Vid :) I had wavefront Intralase done on monday and was as nervous as hell, but like you said need`nt have worried didnt feel a thing through surgery, i would say the worst thing was the stinging eyes after for about 5 hours but after that settled whohoo 20.20 vision I second that if you can afford it GET IT DONE it really is worth every penny i would go and have it done :)
Hi thanks for getting back to me ! My surgery is booked for 9am on Monday 3rd of may at the birmingham branch but i booked it through wolverhampton branch after my consultation on Tuesday 6th of April. Full Name is Stephen Denny and address is 2 Elm Road ,Walsall WS31BH ! Thanks For your time with this greatly Appreciated
@stedanalton you may have problems Steve, I’ve just found out that the 10% discount thing stopped running about a week before my surgery. Now its called Ambassador Refferal for which I need to issue you with a voucher, but they havent come yet. If you tell me when & where your surgery is booked for I’ll call up cust services and they have said they will call that branch and arrange a discount for you. Not sure how much of a discount it works out to be though as I havent received any info yet!
Just watched your vid and I have taken your details as I have my consultation tomorow thanks and enjoy your 50 pounds spending money !Steve Denny
How did your weekly check go?
They were good at Southampton weren’t they - although they do always seem to be running late for my check up appts when I go to the West Quay branch (better to go to the Above Bar one if you can)
I am now day 6!! Vision in my left eye is still a little blurry at distance but they lasered off a lot of astigmatism!! Weekly check on friday and I’m quite nervous about looking at the charts - hope it’s got better!
This has been the most amazing experience of my life so far, and now I can see I expect many more!!!
If you have doubts just go for it - you’ll see the rewards - literally! and Southampton Optical Express were brilliant and so caring!
All sounds perfectly normal to me. My vision was definately cloudy for the first day, things will settle down, just keep on a tight schedule with your drops ( i used the various alarms on my mobile to make sure i never missed a dose ).
My eyes were very lihgt sensitive for about a week and then less so in week two, and now at the end of week three I’m pretty much normal again.
Had it done today! The surgery went all fine, was over really quick. After the numming drops wore off my eyes were watery, bit sore and my eye lids felt really heavy, was really hard to open my eyes! After about 4 hours I could easily open them but was very light sensitive. Now 8 hours on and after 2-3 hours sleep I’m fine with any light but my vision is still abit cloudy but I can already see alot clearer! It it normal for your vision to be a little cloudy for the first day?
Yup that was the worst bit, but it only lasted 22 seconds for each eye so its over very quickly.
Good luck - two weeks on and my vision is superb! My tip is to keep your sunglasses with you at all times for the first week or two, its really helped me. It just lets the eyes relax a bit i think
