PRK Eye Surgery

I had PRK eye surgery done last year. It’s very similar to LASIK, but instead of cutting a flap in the epithelium, they scrape a portion of it away, allowing it to regrow like normal without having “flap problems” in the future. This is a video of one of the eyes. Oh, and it’s upside down, so as to avoid confusion. Enjoy.

I have asked the same question to my doctor. She said that continuous work on computer or reading would create fatigue in the eyes and appear that eyesight is worsening. However, that is not the case as with 15-30 days of rest, eyesight will improve and get back to it’s original shape (it’s true, I tried it). So, if you study a lot, your eyes will get fatigued regardless of whether you had laser surgery or still wear glasses. It also happens to people who never had problems with eyesight.
You should buy those preservative free eye drops. And use them once every couple of hours. I had PRK done last year and I had really bad dry eye. My doctor told me to keep using the drops and it’s worked. I almost never use the drops anymore.
thanks for posting! loved the background music :P
Yes I did it ,check the comments I replied 2 months, for me it was 2 days of pain, a couple months of eye drops (like every 4h) but now I just put some from time to time mostly when I play computer games or read on the pc screen, my eye become a bit dry when I remain focused for a long time.
Overall it’s great, I used to hate rain cause of the glasses and now it’s almost a pleasure to get wet ;)
My cornea is thin too .. and I have been recomended to do the PRK
did u get the surgery what were the outcomes .. i would really appreciate an answer thank you :)
well i guess it would depends on if u get lasik or PRK. i got prk and i had to stay home for 5 days with my eyes closed but it was so worth it because i now have perfect vision. i went to a optometrist in manhatten on park ave. dr niksarli
I am 9 mouths post op prk. I am still unable to drive and work b/c of severe dryness, ghosting and halos. I pray every day this will get better. I really dont know anymore. good luck.
i have a question for those of you who have gotten this surgery, my vision is bad and i cant see well and i am kinda interested in getting this eye surgery done. well back to my question, a co-worker of mine told me that if a person is still going to school, such as doing lots of reading, it isnt recommended. is it true? im still in school, i do alot of reading . please answer my question u guys! and how can i find a good optometrist for this surgery?
AHHHHHHHHH MY EYEEEEEEEEEEE!
getting PRK in ten days lol costs 2500$ for me and it is in the clinic with the world record of more succesfull eye laser surgeries. Some ppl have problems but must of the ppl i see that has problems with PRK were almost blind, im not that bad i have like -3.00 correction in both eyes but i just dont want to use lenses or contact lenses
Lucky I had a good opt. turns out i have pellucid marginal degeneration!, PRK would of made my cornea even weaker and made my eyes worse in the future!
I’m getting it done next week if the doctor gives me the go ahead.
Are you awake when you have a PRK? It looks very painful.
DO NOT GET LASER EYE SURGERY
i had wavefront PRK done 8 months ago at a leading clinic. cost me $3000, figured it was worth the $ for the best. big mistake.
sure i see 20/15 in both eyes but my eyes burn constantly even with drops, i see starbursts/halos/ glare & ghosting. it also caused a big floater in one eye.
i pray things will work out by the time i reach the year mark but right now i wish i never had the surgery.
anyones eyes improve between the 8-12 month mark or beyond?
I just had PRK done, and I wanted to see exactly what had gone down during the procedure (since I had originally gone in for LASIK, but my eyes are too deep so I didn’t actually have detailed description of what was going to happen. Wow…I’m glad I didn’t know the details. Was it as painful for you as it was for me, the healing process I mean?
Yup, its a very short procedure, no pain.
honestly if you have any type of preexisting dry eye condition DO NOT get prk or any other laser correction procedure. TRUST ME.
Im one of those freaks that sleeps with my eyes slightly open, so i have a dry rough area at the bottom of my eye, so do u think PRk (asla the new term) is going to be an issues for me ?
i’m having PRK done next month,MY 3RD LASIK procedure in my right eye.
I don’t have any starbursts. I have always been susceptible to glare, that’s all. But it doesn’t bother me that much. My vision has improved even at night. Some say that colors and details at night are of less quality after their operation, but mine got better. But it all depends on the person. As stated below by mcnabj, he had different results. It really depends on the doctor and your tests. Have refractive screening first to see if you may experience problems. Goodluck!
yes i have starbursts in both eyes. The right eye is the dryer of the two and is worse, Ghosting is also a problem. I am into my sixth month since prk. Don’t get prk if you have any symptoms of dry eye before.
My vision now is 20/15 in the right eye and 20/10 in the left.
hi. I was -7.5 in both eyes. I went to laser vision institute. think long and hard before you get it. good luck.
What clinic did your procedure? How strong was your prescription. I am scheduled to have PRK in 2 months.
I got prk 5 months ago. It has caused severe dry eye problems. SEVERE> I have halos and star bursts at night and cant drive now. My vision is 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. Dont get prk.
