When will Medicaid and Medicare start covering Lasik eye surgery instead of glasses?

I’m tired of hearing that they won’t cover Lasik eye surgery my vision is 20/100 and now when I lose my glasses I have to wait a long time before they replace it and they replace it only every 2 years.

Why won’t Medi-cal and Medicare cover lasik eye surgery?

In my observation, I have noticed that the government is at least ten years behind medical “trends”, for lack of a better word. I don’t expect those two agencies to cover such a breakthrough any time soon.

never. medicaid and medicare are paid for by me and other tax payers. medicaid is free. medicare will not pay their doctors enough as it is (because of corrupt doctors)
its cosmetic surgery. like lipo. they will never cover lipo either. you could become a firefighter. i hear they have really great insurance.

Because lasik is as needed a surgery as.. well, nothing. If you have vision corrected by a cheaper and safer (who wants to pay for the million things that can go wrong with lasik) pair of glasses, why on earth should other tax payers be expected to dole out for you to look pretty?

When it costs the same as glasses. Maybe if you go to the “Lets Suck Off Of The Taxpayers Store” you will find Lasik surgery on the same shelf as glasses but I highly doubt it. Why aren’t grateful that the the taxpayers pay for your glasses? It is hardly our fault that your are not responsible enough to not lose your glasses.

wow! I’m amazed that people with such low iq’s are able to type. for those of you ignorant enough to comment on the so called leeches that suck off the tit of government funded insurance, why not do some research before voicing your dumb ass comment. For your information, I work a full time job, so it is MY tax dollars as much as it is yours that insures myself and my children. Secondly my loving husband died defending this wonderful country. I believe his life more than paid for eye surgery. Along with the money that is taken out of each and every one of my pay checks. hmm, I wonder what makes you believe your comfort is more important than anothers? I’m guessing a house hooker who sits on her ass contributing nothing more to society than children who are being brought up to believe that the only things in life that are important are those that affect them. If you’ve got nothing else to occupy your time with besides trying desperately to hurt a strangers self esteem as punishment for simply asking a question. I feel sorry for you and your children. shame on you. Find something constructive to do.

Wow, I just love some of these posts. What a bunch of selfish pricks. Eye Lasik surgery is not cosmetic surgery. As with any medical condition going the cheaper route say like “glasses” is not always the best thing. Especially if your eyesight is getting progressively worse. You have to see to do things. You have to be able to see to work. Medicare should provide coverage for it. I believe that the government entities need to re-evaluate new medical procedures like this to help improve the quality of life for people dependent on aid from sources like medicare, medicaid. I paid my taxes for years and put into the system, and so have others. I would like to know that I am getting back what I put into the system.
